Prime Minister Chung Hong-won will make a five-day trip to Sochi, Russia on Thursday.
Chung will watch figure skater Kim Yu-na compete and then visit South Korean athletes at the Olympic Village to offer his encouragement.
Also during his stay, Chung will meet with International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and deliver the South Korean government’s strong commitment to support the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. He will also discuss ways to establish cooperative networks with Russia for Pyeongchang’s successful hosting of the Olympic games.
Chung will hold talks with Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on ways to expand bilateral exchanges in sports and a project linking the Russian border town of Khasan with North Korea’s port of Rajin.
On Sunday, Chung will root for South Korea in the four-man bobsled, the last event South Korea will compete in. He will then attend the Sochi Winter Olympics closing ceremony and call on world leaders to support and show interest in the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
