Koreas Agree to Hold Talks on Family Reunions This Week

South and North Korea have agreed to hold a working-level meeting on Wednesday to discuss the reunion of families torn apart by the Korean War.

Pyongyang contacted Seoul through the liaison office at the truce village of Panmunjeom on Monday morning and suggested a meeting on Wednesday or Thursday. Seoul welcomed the proposal later that day and suggested Wednesday as the date for the meeting. The North then agreed to the date.

The meeting will take place on the North's side of Panmunjeom at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The two sides decided to exchange lists of meeting participants on Tuesday.

Pyongyang's offer came a week after Seoul proposed inter-Korean family reunions be held at Mount Geumgang resort in North Korea from February 17 to 22.
